Playtime presents: Paul Towndrow

Writer: Tom BancroftTom Bancroft

Saxophonist Paul Towndrow is a crucial figure at the forefront of the Scottish jazz scene. His CV is remarkable: long-standing member of the renowned Scottish National Jazz Orchestra, saxophonist with Hue and Cry, leader of his own trio and quartet, prolific composer and arranger. He is also a highly respected educator, both through his own annual Jazz Summer School and as saxophone instructor on the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Jazz Course. As a player he has a truly unique sound, and can move from beguiling lyricism to blistering chromaticism in the blink of an eye.

For this special concert he'll be joined by the Playtime Quartet of Martin Kershaw (saxes), Graeme Stephen (guitar), Mario Caribe (bass) and Tom Bancroft (drums), performing a programme of inspiring originals and contemporary jazz classics.

The concert will be live-streamed from Pathhead Village Hall on www.facebook.com/playtimemusic1/live at 8.15 pm on Thursday 3 December.
